A pioneer in extended vocal technique and interdisciplinary performance MacArthur “Genius” Meredith Monk has alternately been proclaimed a "magician of the voice" and "one of America’s coolest composers." Her wordless music combines the technical virtuosity of classical music, the poignancy and directness of folk, the freedom and flexibility of jazz, and the excitement of rock and roll. In this solo vocal concert Monk will share compositions created while working with hospice patients at Rosetta Life as well as other works including selections from Songs From the Hill and Gotham Lullaby.

The Art & Healing Program at the JCCSF is made possible, in part, by the generous gifts of

Jackie Cohen and the Foundation for Art and Healing.
